Industrial Chiller for Injection Moulding Machine

Seaways manufactures industrial chillers designed for injection moulding machines, plastic processing and other applications that require stable process cooling. A chiller for injection moulding machine circulates controlled-temperature water through mould cooling circuits and other suitable cooling systems to remove process heat and maintain consistent operating conditions.

Our air-cooled and water-cooled industrial chillers are available in multiple capacities to suit different machine sizes and cooling loads. What is a Chiller For Injection Moulding Machine?

A chiller for injection moulding machine is an industrial refrigeration system that removes heat from circulating water and supplies the cooled water to the required process circuit.

During injection moulding, hot plastic enters the mould cavity and transfers heat to the mould. Cooling channels inside the mould circulate water to remove this heat so the part can reach the required condition for ejection. The returning water is then cooled again inside the chiller before being recirculated.

A controlled cooling system can help reduce variation caused by changing ambient conditions and inconsistent cooling-water temperatures. Mould temperature and cooling stability are important process variables because they influence cooling time, dimensional consistency, surface finish and overall production repeatability.

Seaways industrial chillers currently provide a listed process-water range of +10°C to +15°C, although the appropriate temperature for a particular moulding process depends on the material, mould design and application.

Signs Your Moulding Machine Needs a Chiller

If your production process experiences inconsistent cooling, excessive cycle times or temperature-related quality problems, the cooling system should be evaluated.

Long cycle time

Parts need extra cooling seconds before ejection, so output per shift drops.

Warpage and sink marks

Uneven mould temperature makes parts shrink unevenly, bend or show dents.

Summer rejections

Quality slips every afternoon and every hot month as tower water warms up.

Hot hydraulic oil

Oil runs hot, seals wear faster and the machine trips on temperature alarms.

Blocked mould channels

Open tower water carries dust and scale into cooling lines. A closed chiller loop stays cleaner.

Dimensions drift

Tight-tolerance parts go out of size between the morning and night shift.

How Does a Chiller for Injection Moulding Machine Work?

The working principle of an industrial chiller for injection moulding is based on continuous heat removal and water circulation.

1

Cold water goes out

The SS304 pump sends chilled water from the tank to the mould and oil cooler.

2

Heat is picked up

Water flows through the mould channels and absorbs heat from the molten plastic.

3

Refrigerant removes it

Back in the chiller, the evaporator and compressor pull that heat out of the water.

4

Heat leaves the plant

The condenser releases it to air (air-cooled) or to tower water (water-cooled).

Air-Cooled vs Water-Cooled Chiller for Injection Moulding

When selecting a chiller for injection moulding machine, one of the key decisions is whether an air-cooled or water-cooled configuration is suitable for your plant.

How to Choose the Right Chiller Capacity

Choosing the correct chiller for injection moulding machine requires more than looking at machine tonnage. The chiller should be selected according to the actual heat load generated by the process and the cooling conditions required by the mould.

Output in kg per hour across all machines on the chiller.

Material. PP and HDPE need more cooling per kg than ABS or PS.

Oil cooling. Add extra capacity if the chiller also cools hydraulic oil.

Safety margin. Keep about 15 to 20 percent extra for Indian summers and future machines.

Quick rule: 1 TR of cooling handles roughly 12 to 18 kg/hr of PP or HDPE, or about 20 to 28 kg/hr of ABS or PS, for mould cooling.

What Our Clients Say About Us

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a chiller for injection moulding machine?

A chiller for an injection moulding machine is an industrial cooling system that removes heat and circulates cooled water to suitable machine or mould cooling circuits. It helps maintain controlled process conditions during plastic moulding.

Why is a water chiller used in an injection molding machine?

A water chiller is used when the injection moulding process requires controlled cooling-water temperature and circulation. It can help remove process heat and maintain more consistent cooling conditions.

Which chiller is suitable for an injection moulding machine?

The suitable chiller depends on the machine and mould cooling load, number of connected machines, required water temperature, flow rate, plant conditions and whether an air-cooled or water-cooled configuration is appropriate.

What is the difference between an air-cooled and water-cooled chiller?

An air-cooled chiller rejects heat using ambient air, while a water-cooled chiller uses a water circuit for heat rejection. The better configuration depends on the plant’s infrastructure, operating environment and cooling-system requirements.

Can an industrial chiller be used for plastic extrusion machines?

Yes. Industrial chillers can be used as process-cooling equipment in plastic extrusion applications as well as injection moulding. The required capacity and configuration depend on the extrusion process and total cooling load.

Can one industrial chiller cool multiple injection moulding machines?

Yes, a centralised chiller system can be designed to serve multiple machines when the total cooling load and circulation requirements are properly calculated. The chiller capacity should be selected according to the combined process requirement.

What temperature does an injection moulding chiller provide?

Seaways’ current industrial chiller models list a process temperature range of +10°C to +15°C. The appropriate operating temperature depends on the specific application and connected equipment.

What is the difference between a chiller and a mould temperature controller?

A chiller provides the cooling source, while a mould temperature controller regulates the temperature of the fluid supplied to the mould. In some injection moulding setups, the two systems work together.

Do injection moulding machine manufacturers need an auxiliary chiller?

Where the machine or customer’s process requires controlled cooling, a chiller can be included as part of the auxiliary equipment package. Machine manufacturers, dealers and system integrators can specify the cooling requirement based on the machine and application.

How do I select the right chiller for my injection moulding machine?

Start with the total cooling load, required water temperature, water flow, number of machines, mould requirements and plant conditions. A chiller should then be selected according to the calculated process requirement rather than machine tonnage alone.
